The National English Literary Museum’s new building was designed with an important goal in mind: that the museum will collect, conserve and promote the literatures of all of South Africa’s official languages. In the coming months, the museum’s name and mandate will change to allow this to happen. These changes happen at a ministerial level, and are driven by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Nkosinathi Emmanuel ‘Nathi’ Mthethwa.

Once the process is complete and the museum has a new name and mandate, there will be an official opening ceremony. The museum is presently open to the public, but has not yet been officially opened.
